Idaho Political Party Affiliation Declaration Form
You must register if you have:
- Never registered before
- Changed your name
- Moved to a different address; or
- Not voted within the last four (4) years.
Registration is subject to dates on the Local Election Calendar
Eligibility, you must:
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Be a resident of Idaho and Idaho County for thirty (30) days preceding the election.
- Have reached eighteen (18) years of age.

- Q: Who needs to register?
- A: Any eligible person who wishes to vote in Idaho and who has never voted here or who has changed name or address since last registering needs to register.
- Q: How do I know if I’m eligible to vote?
- A: You are eligible to vote if you meet all of these requirements.
- Q: Once I register, do I need to register again for the next election?
- A: Registration is permanent as long as you vote at least once every four years in a primary or general election, and do not move. You need to re-register if you change your address or name.
- Q: Can I register to vote by mail?
- A: Yes, but the mail application must be postmarked at least 24 days prior to the election. You can request an Absentee Ballot for one calendar year.
- Q: Can I register to vote online?
- A: Yes, by using the new Vote Idaho portal. Please click here to be directed to the new website.
- Q: What does Residence Address mean?
- A: You can register to vote only in the precinct where your residence is located. Your residence is where your home or living quarters is located, and, to which, whenever you are absent, you intend to return. (statute defining residence for voting purposes)
- Q: Can I put down a mail drop or post office box as my address?
- A: No, the address must be the complete street address of your residence. If you do not have a street address, describe the location of your residence: cross streets, section, township, range, etc.
- Q: How will I know that my mail application has been received and I am registered?
- A: You will receive a mailed notice from the county verifying your address and telling you the precinct you vote in.
- Q: Where do I go to vote?
- A: You can call your county clerk to find out the address of the polling place for your precinct or click here. If you want to look up your address on our Parcel Viewer and find out where you go to vote please follow these instructions.
Q: Who can I vote for in the 2024 Primary Election?
A: That depends on what party party you are currently affiliated with. Here is a helpful graphic on ballot choices. You can change your affiliation up to March 15th, 2024.
- Q: Can’t I just register to vote at the polls on election day?
- A: You may register at the polls on election day by providing proof of residence and a valid Idaho ID. All documents used in providing proof of residence shall be accompanied with a photo I.D. Please Click Here to learn more!
- Q: What is the deadline for return of Registration Application?
- A: Every voter registering at an agency must be registered by the 24th day prior to an election. If you mail the registration card to your County Clerk, the card must be postmarked 24 days prior to the election.
