REASONS TO RECYCLE

Aluminum/ Tin cans:

Can be recycled again and again…. They are the most recycled product in the U.S.
Take 80 to 100 years to decompose in a land fill
Recycling one can saves enough energy to power a TV up to 2 to 3 hours, or a light bulb for 20 hours
Saves 95 % of the energy needed to make aluminum from scratch (Saves money)
Products from cans include: more cans, pie plates, license plates, aluminum foil etc.

Metal cans:

Recycling Steel cans saves 74%of the energy used to make them
In the United States the amount of steel that is discarded and not recycled every year is enough to build all new American cars or to build our entire air fleet.

Plastic:

In the U.S. we use four million plastic bottles every year
Raw materials used to make plastic are gas and oil
Using recycled plastic saves 88% of the cost to make a bottle
Only 25 % of plastic is recycled
Enough plastic bottles are thrown away each year to circle the earth 4 times
Can be recycled into: clothing , the filling for sleeping bags, toys, stuffed animals, — a lot of our plastic is shipped to auto manufactures and made into plastic in automobiles , boards and many other products.

Your plastic grocery bags can be recycled in Lewiston – Albertsons and Wal-Mart have bins in their entrances.

Paper — Cardboard:

The number one item that’s thrown away
Every year more that 67 million tons of paper is used in the U.S.
Over 900 million trees are cut for American paper
By recycling we get the best use of our trees and also reduce manufacturing costs
Takes 70% less energy to make new products using recycled paper
Used to make news papers, writing papers, paperboard/ tissue, insulation etc.
